Salukis Past

I am proud to feature galleries of those Salukis who have played an important part in the foundation of Lorrequer Salukis and in the success of my Salukis over the years. The start of it all, some images can be found below – click on the small image to open the gallery for each Saluki.

Skala

Originally founded in 1979, I acquired my first Saluki, Ch Valpier Djamal (aka Skala) from Pierre deLaroche and Valmond Guerette of Montreal. Her pedigree goes back to Bedouin Caliph, Alamanza Kafiat and Burydown Asphodel Alanya. Admittedly at the time of purchasing Skala, pedigrees did not mean as much to me as they do today. All I knew is that I had wanted a Saluki for a long time and I was finally to get one. Skala was a black fringed fawn and she quickly introduced me to life with a Saluki and to the wonderful world of dog shows. She won Best Puppy in Group the very first time I stepped into a show ring, and continued to win Puppy Groups and Hound Group placements throughout her career.

Cato

Classicus Cato was imported from the Classicus kennel of Jeanna and Nicholas Jaques. I had always admired his dam Eng Ch Burydown Iphigenia (aka Fudge) who epitomized Saluki for me and I was hoping to get something out of her. I was lucky to be in England when Jeanna had committed to doing a repeat breeding of Fudge to Classicus Serendipity Nijinsky to produce her C litter and was promised pick male from that litter. Cato came to live with me in May of 1982 and was bred to Skala to produce the first Lorrequer litter. Cato earned his Canadian Championship with some puppy groups along the way, but he was never a very enthusiastic show dog.
